Established in the year 2018, Purnea University is a collegiate public state university. The university is situated in Purnia, Bihar. It was carried out at Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University, Madhepura on the 18th March 2018 by an act of the Bihar Assembly. The courses offered at the university are affiliated under the UGC (University Grant Commission). It comprises 15 constituent colleges, 32 affiliated colleges, including B.Ed, Engineering, Management, and law colleges spread across the Purnea Division.

The minimum criteria for admission to the UG program is to have passed an intermediate examination with at least 40% marks from the recognized university.
